Shaw’s Cove, Laguna Beach

Shaw's Cove Staircase

We went exploring the other day in Laguna Beach. We came across a small public beach, Shaw’s Cove, that can be accessed by a narrow stairway between residential properties. The staircase is between Wave Street and Fairview Street just off PCH on Cliff Drive. We had no trouble parking on the street but I’m sure this changes on weekends.

When we arrived down on the beach we were pleasantly surprised to see a solitary lifeguard station, a nice beach, as well as a great tide pool area.

The beach was mostly deserted and it’s clear by all the staircases leading from the beach up to private residences, that this public beach is a backyard playground for the homeowners above. Wow. How cool would that be?

Shaw’s Cove does not have a restroom or any other facilities so plan accordingly. That being said, downtown Laguna Beach is just minutes away.
